 In a world where adversity often becomes a barrier to success, some individuals defy all odds and demonstrate remarkable resilience. Solomon Ekpo, a deaf and mute hairdresser in the bustling neighbourhood of Osu, stands as an inspiring example of triumph over challenges.

Despite living with disabilities that might deter others, Solomon has carved a unique path in the hairdressing industry, showcasing his extraordinary skills and unwavering determination. Born with hearing and speech impairments, he faced significant communication hurdles from a young age.

However, Solomon's journey turned out unexpectedly when he discovered his passion for hairstyling. He weaves strands of artistry and resilience with each braid, proving that one's spirit can transcend any barrier. His relatives admired his exceptional braiding talent and marvelled at his unwavering dedication to his craft.

Auntie Akweley, a close relative of Solomon, couldn't contain her excitement as she shared her views on Solomon's extraordinary talent in the art of braiding. Speaking fondly of his impeccable skills, and how he communicates with the family.

She said, "Solomon is a genuinely kind individual, exhibiting great respectfulness and remarkable talent in his braiding skills. His pricing is affordable, and he even allows customers to negotiate if they wish. In addition to braiding, he also crafts wig caps and earns a living by selling purified water."

She added that "when it comes to communication, Solomon employs sign language and gestures, which have brought immense joy to us, his relatives.

 Walking into Solomon's humble braiding salon, one is immediately struck by the atmosphere of warmth and admiration. The air is filled with the animated conversations of his clients who proudly share stories of his exceptional braiding prowess. A client has generously shared her perspective on Solomon's exceptional braiding skills and their experience in communicating with him.

She said, "he skillfully braided my hair, offering affordable and budget-friendly prices. His talent in braiding is evident. When it comes to communication, I utilize sign language to interact with him, whether I'm purchasing water from him or when he visits my shop to make a purchase."

In an industry where communication and interaction are key, Solomon has found innovative ways to communicate.

 A client has generously shared her perspective on Solomon's exceptional braiding skills and their experience in communicating with him.


     Solomon skillfully braided a client's hair, blending natural and dyed strands into Rasta style.

She stated, "i arrived at this location with a colleague for a work assignment, and I noticed him skillfully braiding someone's hair, which I found quite beautiful. Intrigued by his talent, I approached him and inquired about the possibility of him braiding my hair as well."

 She added that "i was pleasantly surprised by the reasonable price he quoted. When it comes to communication, I primarily utilize sign language, and in this particular situation, I rely on a mediator - his niece - to facilitate our interactions."

 Solomon Ekpo is living in that resilience and passion can break through any barrier, allowing dreams to flourish and inspiring others to do the same.
