GOVERNMENT TO CONDUCT DOMESTIC DEBT EXCHANGE PROGRAMME

The country's level of debt became unsustainable, hence the government resorted to an international Monetary Fund Program in July last year 2022 for payment support of $3 billion to sustain the country debt .Hence government decided to conduct domestic exchange program to be able to seek the support of $3 billion dollars from the I.M.F

The finance Minister , Mr Ken Ofori Atta said during his briefing to the press on the stage of the economy.

However, this program will affect the people in one way or the other economically.

In the first place , this will discourage investors from investing further into the country for economic growth. Since the program will affect interest on investment such as bonds and long term investment

Also there there will be hardship on pensioners who have invested in bonds with their pension benefits and the debt will severely affect them since their span or interest will not be paid on due course.

More so , there will be economic  hardships, since government measures will lead to hike in electricity and water tariffs this will lead to general economic hardship amidst tightening of monetary policy.

The finance Minister said the purpose of the debt exchange program is to restructure the country's domestic debt to bring some financial relief to government and protecting the national kitty

In  conclusion, the debt exchange program has affected the people, since it discourage investors, bring hardships pensioners and general economic hardship
