Women In Virtual Gambling: The Growing Numbers of Female Corporate Workers in Online Gambling.

The world of online gambling, once a male-dominated arena has seen a significant shift as women increasingly join the ranks of active participants.

Online casinos, sports betting, and digital games like Aviator have become the new playground for female corporate workers.

A 2021 report by Global Wireless Solutions and Ghana Statistical Service revealed a substantial percentage of female punters.

Libby Kaka, an accountant, and Emmie Ginji, a clerk, shared their personal experiences with factors that lured them to this trend.

An accountant who describes herself as a moderate punter is happily predicting the outcome of a few matches.

“My gambling journey started with an advertisement I saw on television about this whole betting thing," says Libby "Moreover my friends used to talk about it, and this exposure made me sign up for one”

Emmie adds "I was entice to online gambling by social media posts that showcased winning slips, often accompanied by the promise of large returns on relatively small investments. Seeing these along with the encouragement of friends, I was like if this person can use 1gh to make a million cedis, why don't I give it a try?"

Some notable tipsters on social media who normally display their winning slips.

Dave Amadi, Manager of Champion Games, gives an inside scoop on the sudden rise of women in virtual gambling.

“In the years following the outbreak of COVID-19, we observed an uplift of female bettors and this can be attributed to the financial instability caused by job losses during the pandemic. Initially, many of these women suffered losses due to a lack of experience and a desire to earn a large profit quickly. However, over time, a number of these ladies have developed their gambling skills and are now making some cool cash”

Joshua Otabil a psychologist in an interview warns of the risks associated with gambling for these women.“Gambling can be addictive, which is often driven by greed or the desire for large profits, it can lead to severe consequences like being destitute. I have personally witnessed the effects of this addiction when I visited a gaming center in the United States recently and saw a woman gambling while on oxygen support”

As the trend grows, so do concerns about regulation. Beatrice Baiden, Head of Corporate Affairs at the Gaming Commission of Ghana, explains the commission's role in overseeing the gaming industry.

“All gambling advertisements undergo thorough scrutiny by the commission. In addition, the use of celebrities in these advertisements has been prohibited to safeguard against the potentially harmful influence that these public figures may have on the viewers.”

Despite acknowledging the dangers of gambling, Libby and Emmie are unable to resist its allure, using their colleague's involvement as a cautionary tale.

Libby and Emmie describe their favorite gaming weapons in the video.

Whether one views gambling as a harmless form of entertainment or a potentially dangerous activity, it requires awareness as the familiar reminder goes, 'Bet responsibly, gambling can be addictive".
